Travelling

So - I have a question?

How do you handle the whole water/Crystal Light/ avoiding cokes if you are on a road trip?
I spent yesterday on a little day trip and it was hard. I ended up drinking more coke than usual because it was just easy.

Do you just get water wherever you go?

That's something I need to figure out how to work on because I'm going to be travelling more and more over the next few weeks and I want to try and avoid coke.

Crystal Light on the go. The little packets that you add to your bottles of water.

I would just buy bottled water and get the single packs of the Crystal Light. Good Luck!

I concur! I take bottled water and those indiviual packets of Crystal Light! Be sure to shake them up GOOD though! Nobody wants a big swig of powder! =)

I have a bunch of bottles that I fill from home so I am not trashing my car and I use them. Also I keep small water bottles for my kids and have them in the car...they don't love water (me neither but I'm hoping to set a good example) but if it's the only thing in the car...it goes!

I take a Nalgene bottle full of water with me wherever I go.

I freeze the water bottles... and then if it is your thing take the add-in packets of crystal lite and mix it with a frozen bottle... get a couple bottles and get it in varying states of frozen so that they thaw for use it at different times

I just keep bottles of water in the fridge, grab one or two on my way out the door and add the crystal light's to go things. My fave is rasberry Lemonade! So yummy!

I use all of the above, plus at a sporting goods store I bought these really nice water bottles w/ straws which are so easy to drink out of in the car!! I have two so that on long drives I don't have to stop to fill up again. I also just order water when we stop for food on the run. And finally, I got this adorable little bag that doubles as a cooler and I stick everything in there to keep it cold!

I am at work all day, and so like you Kelly I've been trying to get more water into me. So I fill up my nalgege about half way with crystal lite, freeze it over night, then in the morning while getting ready for work I fill up my nalgene the rest of the way with crystal lite. It stays cold the entire day since I froze it the night before. I do this on long trips as well. But the crystal lite to go packets work perfectly well if I'm doing something longer than a day trip!

You could get a bottled water and the Crystal Light individual packs for the water bottles. They are really handy and taste great!

You've got some great advice already. I'm not sure if you'll be doing any plane traveling, but if you are, you'll have to bring empty water bottles through security then fill them up later.

Hey Girl! I just take bottled water with me and the little packets to put in the water. Even going to Hilton Head, we stopped at the grocery store and got lots of water to put in the cooler. I also love the Nalgene bottles too!

We always buy a big package of bottled water when we travel. But I prefer water with no ice and at room temperature, so that helps.

I leave a box of the individual packets in my car.

I have found that I do not like having warm water when on a long trip. So, I have taken to storing a few packets of the crystal light on thego packs in my glove compartment (a variety of flavors to fit my mood) and the I stop to purchase cold water at a store and am able to add them in.

You wil want to take a few sips of the water first (or a big gulp) so there is room to add the powder and shake the bottle.

For me, choosing water came pretty easily, especially when I was eating out. My husband and I did a Crown Ministries course several years ago and one of the catagories we addressed was our weekly "allowance". I typically used (and still use) mine to have dinner out with "the girls". When we finished that class and reduced our weekly allowance down to $10, I really started paying attention to the cost of food, drinks and desserts at restaurants. The goal for eating out was to get out and connect with friends, first and foremost. $10 isn't much to eat out with these days, and the first thing to go was ordering a Coke. Cokes, which used to be around $1.00, are now anywhere from $2-$5 depending on where you're eating out, with the average being around $2.50. The decision to stop drinking Coke and start drinking water was immediate.

The same goes for when we eat out as a couple (rare these days with 2 year old twins running around). Our budget is $150 a month, and we know if we go out, we're immediately adding an extra $5, plus tax and tip, to our bill. That $5 eats into the budget so quickly, and all of a sudden we're not able to just eat out (or take out) whenever we want because we've spent the budget for the month.

As for getting out on the road and traveling, if you're driving yourself and you want to have a Coke (which I do if I'm driving any distance...the idea of caffeine helps keep me from getting sleepy), I'd suggest packing a cooler with a couple of Cokes and several bottles of water. Then you've got your caffeine at your fingertips (no need to do the drive-through thing and be tempted to get food you don't want/need/aren't hungry for) and you have water readily available and nice and cold.

If you hate drinking water straight, look for some of the flavored waters or flavor packets. Just watch how much a) sugar or b) artificial sweeteners they have.

Best of luck! :-)
